KRIS BRADY: DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY | CINEMATOGRAPHER | DOP IN LONDON
Kris Brady | Cinematographer | Director of Photography London
I'm Kris. I am an award winning film maker, director and Cinematographer based in London. My career in the production industry spans 20 years where I now specialise in Commercial, Narrative and TV, Promo and Online Content work.
I originally started in that shooting PD world of television, I subsequently spent a number of years as a director. Directing was fun but I could never give up my love for the camera. I was drawn so much more to what I was doing with the camera, rather than what a director should be doing overall with the piece. I decided to focus all of my efforts into cinematography and have never looked back. I spend my time now working as a director of photography based in London, as well as some work as a photographer.
As a director of photography I am privileged enough to spend a lot of time travelling, but similarly spend an extensive time working as a cinematographer in London.

Shooting in London
London is an amazing place to work as a cinematographer. In my spare time I enjoy doing street photography in central London, usually around Soho and China Town, which are full of interesting places to capture amazing visuals. Spending time taking stills is a really important way to sharpen your skills as a director of photography, and I believe every cinematographer should take the time to do this.
Resources and learning
There are some great resources for young DOPs and aspiring cinematographers to learn the craft. Online tutorials and masterclasses are a great way for a director of photography to learn skills. Practicing photography is one of the best places to start, as photography hones your craft down to one image. Photography is also a great way to showcase your skills to directors. As a cinematographer, you will be working with a director closely and you should be able to have detailed conversations about photography to choose a direction for your next DOP job.
